This 2023 holiday season, people have been counting down not just until Christmas, but until the release of Gypsy-Rose Blanchard.

For over two decades, Gypsy-Rose Blanchard was a victim of child abuse at the hands of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. Her mother had a mental disorder called Munchausen syndrome by proxy, which is a rare form of abuse that results in a guardian feigning or forcing illness on their child for attention and sympathy. Dee Dee continued to falsify Gypsy-Rose’s illness, requesting a wheelchair and feeding tube for her daughter. Gypsy-Rose was also subjected to surgeries to remove her salivary glands after her mother fabricated the illusion of illness, the long-term consequences of which Gypsy-Rose still suffers to this day. Gypsy created an online persona while enduring this abuse. Gypsy befriended a man online who later became her boyfriend; in which she told about all the abuse she was going through to whom she thought was someone with compassion willing to help. Unfortunately for Gypsy, that was not the case. That man later agreed and conspired to help Gypsy kill her own mother. On June 9th, 2015, Gypsy’s mother was murdered.

After Gypsy-Rose Blanchard was charged and sent to prison, not only did her being the victim of Munchausen by proxy get her more spotlight in the public eye but also the multitude of shows and movies produced from her story. Gypsy had already been a star of her own show on Lifetime called The Prise Confessions Of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, in which she shares her struggles with her life behind bars and the regret she holds against the crimes she committed. On December 28th, 2023 at 3:03 am Gypsy Rose Blanchard was released from Chillicothe Correctional Center in Chillicothe, Missouri.

The release of Gypsy-Rose Blanchard sent the internet into a haywire explosion of memes, edits, comments, and videos talking about Gypsy and her story. Some media influencers have even begun to talk about whether Gypsy should even be released. Although Gypsy had faced much criticism after being released she has opened this nonchalant persona towards all the ‘haters’ on the internet. Will internet pressure push Gypsy or the courts over? Or will she become the next internet sensation?
