Each year, rising 9th graders from Farmwell Middle School enter the doors of Broad Run High School and receive a great glimpse of a new chapter in their life. Freshmo is an annual tradition that our school does to showcase what Broad Run has to offer. The whole school gathers and welcomes these new faces introducing our school’s highlights.
Here’s a recap on what happened during this year’s Freshmo.
Becoming a tour guide was an opportunity to showcase students around Broad Run as they navigate their way. Their responsibility was to introduce the campus to the 8th graders and guide them throughout Freshmo’s Itinerary. Freshmen, Shalina Adane, a tour guide says “I wanted to sign up to show incoming freshmen what their high school experience is going to be like.” Tour guides brought them to many different parts of the event, many groups walked around the school showing the hallways and meeting teachers they could possibly have in the following year. After a quick stroll, the students headed to the main and aux gym.
Booths were put up to gather rising members with the same interest and do what they love. Everything was really interactive especially with the sport booths allowing students to experience different parts of their sport or by watching it. The main gym had all the sports booths which was a popular spot for the 8th graders as they enjoyed socializing with their future peers. In terms of the club representatives, the aux gym was more laid low. They gave out free candy, flyers and different kinds of knicknacks to allow students to sign up. Students interact with one another as they learn more about what the club has to offer.
The next part of Freshmo took place in the auditorium. There were multiple parts that were presented during this time. One is where students showcased broad run merchandise that was being sold in the spart mart by doing a fashion show. The second one was a glimpse of the musical, The Mystery of Edwin Drood. Lastly, the members of the show choir presented a short song to the audience. Everyone enjoyed it and it was all done amazingly by each and every student on stage.
The event ended off in the main gym where everyone was gathered to sit and watch the final event. This highlighted the cheer team. In the past years, this was done in the football stadium but due to unexpected weather they had to change plans. The cheer team presented various yells that were done during football games, some of which everyone is familiar with. Everybody, Rumble and the wholesome Sweet Caroline dance that has been done by them for years was presented to make our future Spartans familiar with traditions.
Mrs. White, the student event coordinator, made this all happen. With freshmo taking place, Mrs. White shares her overall goal for our rising 9th graders with what impact would hopefully take place once they enter our doors. She says, “I want them to come in and have a feel of the spartan culture when they come in and familiarize themselves with the building and see what we have to offer.” Broad Run High School surely gave this event their best efforts and made sure that every tradition was known by each of our spartans. They educated the 8th graders with everything we have to offer.
This year’s Freshmo couldn’t have been done without the efforts of every student that participated in this year’s event. Every spartan made the event super memorable and exciting to introduce future spartans to be part of the school. All thanks to Mrs. White and her dedication to make freshmo a complete success. Broad Run High School is thrilled to welcome new spartans in the upcoming year of 2025-2026. Hopefully, this event has made a huge difference to our rising 9th graders and will continue on in the following years.
