Broad Run’s Greatest: Gabby Sultan

Aliza Ahmad, Author

Congratulations to junior Gabby Sultan on her recent commitment to play D1 softball for Hofstra University. She will definitely go down in Broad Run history as one of Broad Run’s Greatest softball players.

Gabby has been playing softball since she was 5 years old. “I played lots of other sports growing up, [but] softball instantly stole my heart,” she said. ”I love the feeling of hard work paying off. I enjoy having fun with my teammates, and of course I like to win.”

The catcher’s goals for the 2022 season, “is for the team to truly come together and make it as far as we can in districts. There is so much talent on this team, I can’t wait to see how far we can take it. My personal goal is to be patient and relaxed. I tend to put a lot of pressure on myself. I need to remember that this is a team sport and allow my teammates to pick me up.”

Sultan described getting Coach Steele his 500th win as being, “an amazing game. [It was] so [much] fun and exciting to be part of Broad Run softball history.”

The best thing about sports is all the lessons you can learn from it. Gabby learned that, “it is ok to not always be perfect. All that matters is that you try your best and remember that there will be another at bat/chance… What failure has taught me is that every time I fail, instead of using that as an excuse to feel sorry for myself, I use it as fuel to do better next time.”

Gabby described the team environment on the softball team as having, “lots of fun together at practice or in the dugout. I already see so much improvement from where we were during the 1st day of practice. We have fun but also grind and get 1% better each day.” She added that “It is great being coached by a legend in Virginia high school softball.”

I wish Gabby good luck for the rest of the 2022 season. Go make Broad Run proud!

“Everything happens for a reason, and when it is supposed to happen. Don’t try to do too much.”
