The Broad Run Boy’s Basketball Team has been on a heater with their twelfth consecutive win, led by Coach Krogh. The Spartans have beaten many quality opponents before winter break, such as Yorktown, South Lakes, Stone Bridge, and South County. However, that stretch is only the beginning, as Broad Run is set to face Heritage and other key regional opponents. Broad Run’s impressive start has drawn statewide attention, earning the Spartans a Top 10 ranking in Northern Virginia from NovaHoops. The Spartans have seen an increased scoring margin from last season. They’ve been averaging a remarkable 78 points per game while limiting opponents to 57 points per game before winter break. Critics questioned Broad Run’s offensive production after the break, as they only scored 63 points against Potomac Falls and Freedom. That narrative quickly shut down when Broad Run scored 75 points against Woodson and Dominion, extending their winning streak.
The Spartans have shown consistent defensive intensity and an ability to rely on the next-man-up philosophy for offensive production. From Brandyn Edmonds taking over the gym in Riverside to Ryan Brzezanski posting a 40-point double-double at South County, Broad Run has received production from multiple players. Recently, Adam Perdue nailed multiple threes from downtown in Broad Run’s first home game since the break. When Perdue was asked how he looks to remain on the hot hand, he replied, “The main thing is just doing what I gotta do to help the team win. Stay consistent by playing my role, helping, doing whatever I need to do.” These star-studded performances wouldn’t have been possible without the rest of the team’s contribution. When Coach Krogh was asked what he was most proud of, he replied, “A lot of different people are scoring. We’ve had eight people in double figures, we’ve had multiple games where everybody played, and I think people are starting to figure out how they contribute to winning basketball.” When you have the ability to rely on the next man up, it shows on the scoreboard, as the Spartans have been winning by an average margin of 23 points.
Broad Run’s dominant stretch has sparked excitement throughout the community. As Broad Run climbed into the Top 10 in Northern Virginia, the gym has seen packed crowds for key games, making home games a challenging atmosphere for opponents to play in. However, it’s important to acknowledge that being ranked is not the team’s main concern. “What we want to see is the stuff that we’ve been teaching and preaching. How does it hold up against the highest level of competition?” Coach Krogh emphasized, “We were looking for this competition. This is nothing to be scared of.” The Spartans will have an opportunity to get their payback against Heritage for knocking them out of the playoffs last season. We’ll have to wait until the end of January to see how the Spartans are holding up after this stretch before they head into regional play in February.
