Broad Run’s play this year was Macbeth and is said to be the best production that has been done. The directors chose this play because they wanted to do Shakespeare, and they wanted to do a cross curriculum where the students could perform something that they have learned in their English classes. The director, members from the cast and crew, and visitors gave their thoughts on the play.
Thoughts from the Director
One of the directors of the play was Ms. Cohen. She said, “My favorite part of the play was Mr. Krogh because he learned his lines, and it was an impressive feat for him. Next time, I would like to spend more time doing table work with the cast, so they can really understand, but I thought they got a good grasp of the language. I think the most challenging part was finding the time. I think we did well with the technical elements, but we also had to find the time to make a great production and teach the students how to do it.”
Thoughts from the Cast and Crew
One of the members on the cast was Junior Chris Von Kleeck. She was the attendant, the porter, the old man, son of Macduff, and young Siward in the play. She said “I think the play went really well, especially compared to past productions. I feel like I had probably the most fun in this one. The most challenging part was probably learning and understanding the language. I feel like by the end, we definitely had it, but we had like a full week of tablework that we had to do.” Junior Ella Sreniawski’s role in the play was the front of house crew. She said, “My favorite scene in the play was either Banquo’s death scene or the porter scene. The most challenging part of my role was setting up the display cases. We designed and put them up, and that took forever to do.”
Thoughts from a Visitor
Junior Gia Corsi really liked the play. She said, “My favorite part was the costumes, especially the three witches’ costumes. Every time they spoke Shakespeare, which was for the whole play, it was kind of hard to follow along, but the acting was so good that you wouldn’t even need to understand Shakespeare to follow along.”
Overall, the play went really well. Even though everyone said different things, they all agreed on one thing: it was a huge success!
