In middle school, many teachers say that high school is really scary and because they say that, that stays in your mind for the rest of the year, but the truth is it really isn’t that scary. High school can be frightening at first because you will have to get used to the layout of the school and the workload, but you will get used to it quickly.
One important thing to keep in mind is that high school is very different from middle school. In high school, a lot of people take multiple really hard classes such as APs or DEs. Everyone is different, and everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. Junior Gia Corsi said, “If you know that you won’t be able to succeed in the hard classes because you have other commitments that take most of your time, don’t take those hard classes. Also, don’t take hard classes in subjects that you don’t like.” Senior Reena Sinha remarked, “Try to get good grades and participate in every opportunity that’s available while you have the time.”
There are many tips that can help you succeed in high school. The first tip is that you should email your teachers if you have any questions. In high school, you will need to email your teachers, they will not come looking for you. Another tip is that you should have a physical or digital agenda. This way, you can be organized, and know what you have to do that day or that week. Most of the time, in high school, teachers will say when something is due or if there is a test once, so keeping an agenda is really useful.
There are also some things that you should avoid, such as procrastinating. In high school, since you have four core subjects, most of the time, you will get homework in all/most of those classes every day. Reena said, “Be cautious of not slacking off in the middle of the year because that is when school tends to be the busiest, and you will have the most workload.” In other words, do not wait until the last minute to study for tests or to submit assignments.
As a junior now, I can tell you that high school isn’t easy, but it isn’t impossible. It just takes time to get adjusted, but if you follow the tips, you will succeed in freshman year and the following years.
