Teens for Christ is a group that invites students to build a stronger relationship with God. As students face distractions, they often get disconnected. In search of a sense for a purpose and support, having faith is a powerful strength. Broad Run High School offers a community that invites students to connect with one another to learn more about God’s works and words. Whether you’re part of Christianity or would like to know more, the Teens for Christ Club is an open space that invites everyone to learn more about the words of God and build your relationship with Him.
The club originated from a big community at Broad Run that was sponsored by Coach Costello, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. It was mainly aimed for student athletes to gather and maintain to stay connected with God despite their busy lives. While that was happening, Mr. Krogh had a student who wanted to learn more about Christianity and so he hosted small meetings in his classroom where he shared bible verses and discussed them. Slowly the community grew bigger and the club transitioned its aim for only athletes to something broader. Mr. Krogh just summarizes it up and says, “There’s a lot of students coming, but they wanted to open to more people so they switched the club from fellowship of Christian athletes to TFC; Teens for Christ.” Hence, the merge between the two. Once Coach Costello passed away, Mr. Krogh decided to take charge.
Teens for Christ meets during gold club days in seminars that’s being held in room 203. During these meetings either fun and light activities take place. Some days it’s used to introduce students to Christianity and invite them to join bible study. Bible study is an ongoing meeting that happens weekly every friday. During the morning, students gather at Mr. Krogh’s room. He prepares papers and the verses which will be discussed. Throughout the meeting students share their perspectives and open up conversations regarding their understandings. The bible studies are open to anybody as it’s a great introduction to Christianity and a safe space to understand the word of God. Inviting other students is well encouraged; it helps the community grow bigger and spread the light of God.
Senior, Fabi Gerome shares how her experience has been going with the weekly meets. “[Bible Study] has been really good, I really like it. It’s something to look forward to every Friday and it makes me feel better about myself and it just gives me a good start to my day.” It’s a positive impact to students as they finish off another week with school. It’s a great atmosphere to simply connect with other students and discuss the words of God.
In the past, TFC has had enjoyable activities. One big trip was visiting the bible museum, members of the club took a field trip and learned about the history of God’s word and how it was created. Another one is an annual meeting called Senior Shares. It’s when during the end of the year, seniors are invited to share their testimony during the last weeks of school.
As the club blooms more each year, Mr Krogh has some future plans to implement in the upcoming year. He mentions, “I do want to get some official student leaders who can do what they want with a club, so my goal for the club is that students are taking a little ownership of it.” It’s great to be involved with the club and pitch in new activities for the future. It gives great experiences with leadership and has a great impact.
The club continues to improve and grow. It’s an open community where students can socialize with their peers and continue to spread positivity. As we carry the legacy of what Coach Costello brought for Broad Run, it’s exciting to see and welcome new faces each week. Bible studies just helps students slow down and remind themselves each week their purpose, trusting God’s plan, and how great being surrounded with other Christians can feel. With your ideas, the club will continue to share its light and spirit to other teenagers with struggles or who are stuck in the darkness. TFC is an eye opening area that provides realization and the truth of life through the bible. Students with different testimonies, experiences, and interests come together to worship God and understand his words deeper. It’s open to everyone whether you’re curious about God’s word, or want to grow a stronger relationship with Him.
