People’s Thoughts on Sculptors
Two 10th-grade students, Parmleen Bath and Mika Malaespina, spoke about their perspectives on both contemporary and historical sculptors.
Bath stated, “Well, the older ones look really intricate, but I like the newer ones since I feel like I can understand them better.” She expressed a preference for more contemporary sculptures, finding them easier to comprehend. She also expressed admiration for the 1984 remembrance sculpture commemorating the Sikh Genocide, highlighting its powerful message. Furthermore, Bath suggested the creation of more sculptures within her school, Broad Run, perhaps depicting significant figures like the principal or other important individuals.
Malaespina, also a 10th-grader, shared a similar interest: “I really like the newer sculptures as they represent the mind. And I really like the human face it has.” She expressed particular fondness for the Statue of Liberty in New York City, viewing it as a powerful symbol of peace and friendship. Like Bath, Malaespina also advocated for the inclusion of more sculptures within Broad Run High School, suggesting of individuals like Coach Costello and other esteemed teachers, incorporating elements like music and sports to enhance the diversity and appeal of the school environment.
