Broad Run Basketball: A Season of Challenges and Promise
Broad Run’s High School basketball teams are gearing up for an exciting season filled with both familiar faces and newcomers. As the teams dive into the new season, they’ll face a series of challenges that will test their skills and determination.
Boys Basketball: A Battle for Supremacy
The boys’ basketball team, under the guidance of Coach Jacob Krogh, has been focused on overcoming the challenges posed by Woodgrove and Tuscarora. “I think Woodgrove is going to be one of the more talented teams we play, as well as Tuscarora out of Leesburg. So, the two games have got to be the defensive end of the court” Mr. Krogh explained. These teams have been the most challenging due to Broad Run’s losses as they have had scores of 35-45 from Tuscarora, so they are trying to find new strategies to undercover such as playing better defense and to take some advantage of them.
They are confident they will be playing better this year, as Mr. Krogh said, “We have a chance to be pretty good and bring back a lot of talent from last year, as well as some new guys, some young guys who also are going to be able to contribute.” Now they’re
questioning if their chances of playing better this time will be higher or lower but they feel like they are positively contributing to the success of their game.
Girls Basketball: Taking The Spirit
The girls basketball team has also been competitive this year, with Woodgrove emerging as their biggest rival. Annie O’Connell, a varsity player on the girls basketball team, noted that they’ve also been playing against John Champe, Woodgrove, Loudoun Valley, and Loudoun County. “Our biggest rival is Stonebridge. Also, we definitely always lose to Woodgrove. But this year they lost two D1 players and they lost another really good player that transferred to PVI,” O’Connell said. Woodgrove had a score of 75-40 against Broad Run, so as shown, their skills need some time to match their competition.
However, through diligent training, they believe they will be improving. O’Connell stated, “During practice, everyone seems to be working hard. It’s the beginning of the season, so we’re doing team bonding tonight, so everyone gets to know each other, then it becomes more than a game.” She believes this will elevate her team to a better approach this season such as bonding time will greatly impact their motivation and success towards their game.
Broad Run’s basketball team is eager to make their mark this season. With some tough competitors from Woodgrove and Tuscarora, the team is determined to work hard and collaborate to help Broad Run’s Basketball teams to reach new heights.
