After many light shows, Saks Fifth Avenue Light Show is coming to an end, nearly a decade after rumors sparked that there would be no light show coming up this year in New York City. The winter holidays won’t be as bright or festive as it was before. Tourists who spent thousands of dollars to go to the light show now have to find something else to do, and the company who poured a lot of money into these light shows are now losing a lot of profit as well.
Many people who travel to NYC for the holidays look forward to the Light Show. However, since there likely won’t be one this year, tourists who go specifically for these events will have to cancel their plans. 11th grader Sanju Nimmagadda said,”I mean, if it’s tradition, it should stay.” People who travel from all over the world come and visit the glorious and magnificent light show, having all sorts of crazy reactions towards them. Seeing the bright decorations during Christmas time is one of the main reasons why people come to New York City. People take their time to take photos, videos, and pictures that capture a magical moment with the light festival, and bring along family, allowing them to bond. This joyful experience is a comfort to many, and its lack will leave the holidays feeling incomplete for many families.
The company’s factual reason for doing this is because there were millions of dollars that had been poured out onto the decision making of these light shows which was, unfortunately, more than they could afford to spend. 11th grader Madison Remes said,” I think this sudden change is going to cause a lot of angry reactions among people” Therefore, tourists will no longer be attracted to this site. In 2023, there was already some foreshadowing about how the lights were coming to an end, as they did not cover up the whole building, unlike previous years, where they actually had covered up most of the building, so that the general public and media could try and capture the big lights.
To conclude the Saks Fifth Avenue lights coming to an end, this year begins a new twist and celebrates the commerable city lights without it. Since it has been a good run, surely people won’t forget about it. Most people have to also think about how they can spend and or celebrate Christmas this holiday season year without the light show.
