Fortnite is a popular online game with hundreds of thousands playing daily. It is owned by Epic Games and its base is located in Cary, North Carolina. Fortnite is making its updates in an Old Towne Center Mall which Epic Games purchased in 2021. It is one of the most popular and influential games of 2025, and has become a huge phenomenon since its rise to fame in 2018, just after its release in 2017. Epic Games keeps fans interested with updates, events and concerts. This popular game has done a few collaborations with famous artists such as Eminem, Travis Scott, Ice Spice, Snoop Dogg and Ariana Grande to name a few. As Epic Games tries to boost its fan base and keeps the famous game alive is it now becoming overrated?
Are Fortnite seasons random now?
Many dedicated fans feel Epic Games is grasping at straws, with the sudden changes made to the popular game, Fortnite fans are questioning whether it is still a good game. Fortnite has had multiple outstanding seasons; the season we are currently in is Chapter 6 Season 4. This season feels completely random. Currently, it is about a big bug invasion and when you stop the bugs in a certain area you could get mythical and support items. This season also includes new characters you can gain by completing the battle pass. The battle pass is a way you can get new characters and wraps for specific weapons. One of the characters you can get is The Green Power Ranger. With the addition of The Green Power Ranger, there are multiple characters you can purchase with the battle pass.
As Fortnite gets older, the updates are harder to keep. Most fans are upset with Fortnite’s updates and believe it’s bad now, like freshman Ayaan Skeikh, who believes “ Fortnite fell off. It was like they were trying too hard and trying to add more updates to regain fans”. Epic Games has brought back a few fan favorite items, including the Grapple glove, Shockwaves, Pump-Shotgun and the Shockwave Hammer, but like Ayaan Sheikh and many other fans believe the creators are focusing on quantity instead of quality.
Past seasons success
To keep fans engaged, Epic Games often incorporates content from successful tv shows and movies into Fortnite through updates, game modes and events. This strategy seems to be successful by using certain things children and adults enjoy to keep these people interested, the two of the most effective examples are collaborations with Dragon Ball and Marvel. The Dragon Ball collaboration was highly successful as it brought content from the long running anime and manga series into the game. Similarly the season about Avengers Infinity War was also extremely popular. The Avengers Infinity update launched May 18, 2018 just 11 days after the premier on April 23, 2018. Marvel has continued to partner with Epic Games after the Avengers Infinity War update. During both of these special events Fortnite created special game modes and added powerful mythical weapons and support items. These partnerships show how creative Epic Games was in the past and hopefully will continue to be as creative in the future.

Nice job on this, Greyson. I liked how you didn’t just say Fortnite is overrated, but actually explained why especially the part about how all the constant updates make it feel less like the original game. I wonder what collaboration they’ll have next. I would love to see a Fortnite x Minecraft collab. Keep up the work!

I love this article! It really shows the different perspectives on how Fortnite is both trying to hard, and focusing too much on quantity and not quality. Can’t wait for more articles in the future!
