On the 14th of November, as the final seconds of the game between two rivals were winding down, the Cleveland Browns were up 21-7  about to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers for the first time since October 2014. The game started to get heated up when Browns DE Myles Garrett tackled Steelers QB Mason Rudolph and took his helmet and attacked him. After this play, the whole crowd was stunned, as were the players on both teams. Maurkice Pouncey, one of the offensive linemen, tried to protect his quarterback Rudolph by making sure that Myles Garrett wouldn’t hit him for a second time. Pouncey started to kick Garrett, which eventually had him ejected from the game. Pouncey was suspended for three games, Garrett for the season , and both teams were fined $250,000. However, many people supported Pouncey because he was just trying to prevent him from getting injured. Hall of Famer Deion Sanders was one of these supporters.

“Just so y’all know that inside a locker room Maurkice Pouncey is a hero. He protected his QB and he was willing to risk it all for his teammate. Ain’t many dogs like that left in the game. He should be fined but no Suspension for Pouncey. That’s a REAL TEAMMATE!” Sanders said on Twitter after the game.

Baker Mayfield, the quarterback of the Cleveland Browns was completely honest about this situation by stating that this incident was completely unnecessary and was endangering Mason Rudolph.

“I didn’t see why it started, but it’s inexcusable. I don’t care, rivalry or not, we can’t do that. That’s kind of the history of what’s been going on here lately, hurting yourself. That’s endangering the other team. That’s inexcusable. He knows that. Well, I hope he does now. It’s tough. We’ll see,” said Mayfield when questioned about it after the game.

The Spartan also asked Lance Lacny who is the starting running back for the school team about the situation. Lacny said that he was really confused about what happened during the fight, so he watched interviews. He then asked the character coach at Broad Run about the situation, and he said that Myles Garrett would be charged for assault. Lacny also stated that he thought that Myles Garrett was a good player and had lots of respect for other players until this incident where he completely lost his reputation.

Lacny was also really impressed about how Maurkice Pouncey reacted to the situation by trying to protect his quarterback by preventing Garrett to get another hit. He mentioned that he would not have been suspended if he did not kick Myles Garrett.

“I would try to fight the defensive end off and I would do anything to protect my quarterback,” said Lacny when asked what he would do if this happened to his teammate.
